A power animal is a personal companion and ally for our life path.
In shamanic traditions, animals are perceived as ensouled beings and allies for humans. These traditions share an understanding of the world in which humans, animals, and nature are not separate but connected.
Power animals can protect, guide, strengthen, teach, and mirror something back to us. They can connect us with certain forces and qualities and offer orientation on our path.
In my work, I distinguish between the personal “main” or “life” power animal, which usually accompanies us throughout our lives, and “helping” animals, which can additionally appear in certain phases of life, during challenges or transitions, or around a specific theme.
Power animals speak their own language, and this language is as individual as the encounter itself. A wolf, for example, can embody the connection to the moon and to primal femininity, appear as a guide or teacher, remind us to trust our own instincts, or call on us to protect our own boundaries. Which of its qualities matters right now reveals itself in the journey.
That is why, for me, the general interpretation of an animal is not what stands at the center, but what actually shows itself: How does the power animal meet me? What happens on the journey? And what message does it bring?
In a power animal journey, I set out on a shamanic journey for you, or for your child, and connect with your personal power animal.
I follow the images, encounters, and messages that unfold during the journey without assigning them a particular meaning in advance. Helping animals can also appear on a journey when they matter for a current theme or a particular phase of life.
In this, I act like an interpreter between you and your power animal: I perceive what shows itself and then translate the images, messages, and connections into a form that can be understood and taken into everyday life.
For me, a power animal journey does not end with the journey itself.
The connection to the power animal can be consciously carried forward and deepened afterwards. It can become a trusted companion we return to again and again, and whose qualities we can connect with.
It can give courage, strength, orientation, or remind us of something we may have lost sight of in ourselves.
After the journey, you receive a personal voice message, an intuitive soul text, and an individual soul image as a reminder and anchor for everyday life.
Children already carry their own personality, their gifts, and their very own path within them. These qualities often show themselves early, sometimes clearly visible, sometimes more hidden.
A power animal journey can become a strengthening experience not only for the child itself. It can also help parents perceive their child on a deeper level and understand them better.
This is not about imposing anything on the child or assigning them a particular role. Rather, qualities, potentials, needs, and inner strengths that are already present can become visible.
Especially with younger children, parents sometimes experience the messages of a power animal journey as a touching moment of recognition: something they may have long sensed intuitively in their child suddenly receives an image or words. Sometimes the journey also opens up an entirely new view of the child's nature.
Every child is unique. A fish does not have to learn to climb a tree to be valuable.
The power animal journey invites us to recognize, honor, and accompany the individual nature of the child.
The power animal itself can become a trusted inner companion, a resource the child can turn to, for example in new, challenging, or emotional situations.
The personal soul image makes this connection visible and tangible and gives the power animal a place in the child's everyday life even after the journey.
The children’s book “Sometimes I am an Eagle, Sometimes I am a Mouse”, which I co-created with my friend and author Charlotte Stevenson, also explores this idea. Through the different qualities of animals, it invites children to recognize and appreciate their own emotions, strengths, and the many aspects of who they are.
Adolescence is a time of great transitions and thresholds.
With puberty begins the path from childhood into adulthood: physically, emotionally, and in the development of one's own identity. Questions like "Who am I? What truly belongs to me? Where is my place?" can become especially present in this phase of life.
In many cultures, such transitions were and still are consciously accompanied and honored through initiation and rites of passage. In our modern everyday life, a comparable space is often missing, one in which this threshold may be consciously acknowledged:
Something is changing. One part of the path so far is ending, and a new one is beginning.
Puberty marks one of the great thresholds of life: the path from childhood into adulthood, from girl to woman, from boy to man.
A power animal journey can be a very personal form of support during this time.
The power animal can mirror qualities already present in the young person, give courage and orientation, and become an inner companion on the way into adulthood.
Especially in a phase of life in which the expectations of parents, school, friends, and the outside world can be felt ever more strongly, the connection to one's own power animal can open a space in which something else matters:
Who am I, regardless of who I am supposed to be for others?
Here too, it is not about telling a young person who they should become. It is about strengthening them in perceiving their own qualities and discovering their own path and their own identity.
As adults, too, we keep encountering thresholds and changes.
Sometimes we stand before a decision or a new beginning. Sometimes we find ourselves in the middle of a phase of life in which the old no longer fits, while the new is not yet fully visible. And sometimes we simply sense that something in us wants to be lived more fully again.
In such phases, a power animal can remind us of our own original strength and mirror qualities that may have had little room for a long time. Helping animals can additionally appear and accompany us through a current theme, a challenge, or a transition.
They can open a new view of a situation, offer orientation, or bring us into contact with parts and resources that are already present within us.
Here too, for me, it is not about general animal interpretations or about ascribing a particular trait to a person. At the center always stands the individual encounter and message within the journey.
Power animal journeys can take place both in person and remotely.
Since I go on the journey for you or your child, you do not need to enter trance yourself, be able to meditate, or have any prior experience with shamanic work.
I set out on the journey, meet the power animal, and bring its images, qualities, and messages back with me.
Afterwards, you receive the journey as a personal voice message, an intuitive soul text, and an individual soul image that makes the connection to your power animal visible and can continue to work as an anchor in everyday life.
The power animal does not remind us to become someone else. It can remind us of the strength that already lives within us.
